Item 5 RECOGNITION ISSUES IN THE BOLOGNA PROCESS: FOLLOW-UP TO THE SALAMANCA AND PRAHA MEETINGS documents in rtf format for printing: Final

meetings, relevant for the recognition of qualifications) By the time of the ENIC/NARIC meeting, the Bologna Process will have been brought a decisive step forward through the Academic Convention (Salamanca, 29 – 30 March) and the next Ministerial meeting (Praha, 18 – 19 May). The ENIC and NARIC Networks will be invited to take stock of their contribution to the Bologna Process on this basis of the report by the ENIC/NARIC Working Party on recognition issues in the Bologna Process, which was finalized in January 2001 and which aims to present key issues that will need to be addressed to develop recognition policy in the direction of creating a European Higher Education Area. The ENIC and NARIC Networks are expected to play an significant role in the implementation of this goal. A report on the impact of the documents that came out of the Salamanca and Praha meetings on the recognition of qualifications will be submitted in writing shortly before the meeting or made orally. | Item 6 FUTURE STRATEGIES FOR THE NETWORKS DGIV/EDU/HE (2001) 2 - document in
rtf format for printing At their annual meetings, the ENIC and NARIC Networks identify priority issues for their work. A number of themes proposed have not been addressed due to a lack of time and resources and may still be considered. At the same time, the Working Party on Recognition Issues in the Bologna Process has identified a number of highly topical recognition issues that should be addressed by the Networks. Action: advice to the Networks and the Secretariats. |
Item 7 INFORMATION GATHERING AND PROCESSING ON TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION DGIV/EDU/HE (2001) 3 document in rtf format for printing The Code of Good Practice for the Provision of Transnational Education will be submitted to the Lisboa Recognition Convention Committee for adoption in June 2001. At the same time, the Confederation of Rectors’ Conferences of the European Union is carrying out a study on transnational education in the EU and the EEA, commissioned by the European Commission. From both contexts, it is clear that obtaining and providing reliable information on transnational education is a major concern that should be addressed by the Networks. printing The globalization of higher education also has an impact on the recognition of qualifications, and is in this sense related to the “external” aspect of the Bologna Process. At the same time the Lisboa Recognition Convention and the UNESCO framework provide links to competent recognition authorities in other parts of the world. Item 10 OTHER FORMS OF RECOGNITION DGIV/EDU/HE (2001) 19
document in rtf format for printing In addition to academic recognition, professional recognition is becoming more and more important in a world of an increasing mobility of labour. A discussion focused on various forms of recognition and on their complementarity is important at this stage mainly for drawing appropriate conclusions regarding the further development of techniques and for the academic recognition of qualifications. Item 11 CO-OPERATION WITH ACE DGIV/EDU/HE (2001) 20 The ENIC and NARIC Networks have so far co-operated with the ACE professional section of the European Association for International Education on specific issues. A presentation of their co-operation will be followed by the proposal to increase the number of activities of common concern to ACE and to the ENIC and NARIC Networks. Item 12 ELECTION OF THE ENIC BUREAU DGIV/EDU/HE (2001) 7 document in rtf format for printing The ENIC Network is invited to elect its President and two Vice Presidents for the period 2001-2002. Item 14 THE 2002 ENIC/NARIC MEETING The ENIC Bureau and NARIC Advisory Board decided to accept the invitation from Malta to hold the 2002 Network meeting in that country. The Maltese ENIC and the Secretariats may provide oral information on the preparations for the meeting. Action: taking note; advice to the Maltese ENIC and the Secretariats if appropriate |
