Is official recognition needed to work in Latvia with a foreign diploma/qualification? In these cases, when the profession in question in Latviais regulated, holders of foreign qualifications need official recognition. In all other (non-regulated) professions it is up to the employer to decide whether to employ holder of foreign qualification or not.
What is a regulated profession? A regulated profession is a profession which by law or regulation requires authorization, registration or the equivalent. This authorization or registration is often connected with the requirement of a particular, specified education and training.
How to know if your profession is regulated in an EU member state/EEA country? Each state is free to chose which professions it wants to regulate. Each particular profession may be regulated in some countries and not regulated in others. It is therefore recommended to check this issue at the national contact point of the country in question or in the EC datbase
How to know if your profession is regulated in Latvia? Law on Regulated Professions and Recognition of Foreign Qualifications and Cabinet regulation No 337 of August 8, 2002 lists the regualted professions in Latvia (with specialities and sub-specialities indicated).
