CHOIR CONDUCTING |
1. Conducting of 3 choral songs
a cappella and 1 large-scale work. One of the a cappella
songs should represent renaissance or barocco period. One of a
cappella songs should be created by a Latvian composer.
2. Performance by heart of a score of 2 songs a cappella
and a large-scale work (introduction and interludes should be played by
applicant, choral accompaniment may be played by accompanist).
3. Singing by sight of leading choral parts of one of the a
cappella songs and of the large-scale work. |

SYMPHONIC CONDUCTING |
Major (Conducting). Creative
competition -
a) symphonic Allegro or overture of Haydn, Mozart or other composer; 1
lyrical work for string orchestra;

Creative competition - Music
literature:
Characterisation of composer¢s
creative work. Characterisation of large-scale works. Test of musical
knowledge (recognising music in the recording and by sight, play
themes).
2.Solfeggio.
3-part dictation. Detection of musical elements by ear. Singing melody
with and without accompaniment. Analysis of music fragment by ear.
Harmony
Harmonisation of melody. Playing of sequences, tonal and modulating
periods. Analysis of piece by sight including subjects of harmony,
theory, analysis of musical works, form and polyphony. |

CHOREOGRAPHY |
.Creative competition and major.
Applicant creates a choreographic composition to the musical material
provided; test of musical ability (ear and rhythm).
Classical dance.
Test of knowledge in classical dance. Practice at the wall, in the hall
and a small “allegro” fragment. Examination also includes elements of
the Latvian dance with the technical trend.

Programme annotation
Programme of Master's degree is
envisaged for talented students who have proved their talent and diligence
during previous studies and have successfully passed entrance examinations.
If previous education of the applicant does not correspond to the chosen
field, one has to master independently additional academic programmes
determined by the corresponding departments.
During the Master's programme a student has to develop ability to master
large-scale concert programmes working independently and orientating in
various styles of music one's field. It is possible to specialise in a
definite style and make its more profound research (barocco, classicism,
romanticism, and contemporary music). Student has to master analysis of
form, problems of interpretation and style, to deepen knowledge in
psychology, philosophy, foreign languages and to defend a Master’s work.

CHOIR CONDUCTING |
Examination in conducting and
playing of a score.
Conducting of vocal instrumental work or its movement (10 -12 min) and
playing of a score together with accompanist.
Work with a choir.
Applicants are working for 3 days 1 hour (60 min.) daily with the Choir
conducting department choir mastering 2 songs according to the choice of
commission. Afterwards songs are performed in concert version.
Evaluating work with a choir commission considers applicant¢s
work with intonation (ear for music), vocal work with a choir and good
voice abilities, score playing skill, understanding of style and
artistic value of performance. Songs for work with a choir are issued
upon submitting necessary documents for entrance procedure. |

CONDUCTING OF SYMPHONIC AND
MILITARY ORCHESTRA |
Conducting and playing of score.
Work with an orchestra. |
|
CHAMBER ENSEMBLE CLASS |
Applicants have to submit the
list of previously mastered repertoire. On audition applicant has to
perform 3 chamber ensembles of various styles. During the examination
ability for quick mastering of repertoire will be tested (a score of
unknown work is provided 1 week before audition). |
|
ACCOMPANIMENT CLASS |
1. Differentiation is possible:
major in accompaniment of vocal and instrumental chamber music,
major in accompaniment of opera scores.
2. Applicants are to submit a list of repertoire. On examination
applicant has to perform:
2 pieces of various styles,
accompaniment for major in chamber music - 6 works of various styles (2
instrumental works, one of them - arrangement of orchestral work),
accompaniment for major in opera - 4 arias of various styles, 1
instrumental work, 1 song. |

MUSICOLOGY
|
Colloquy in major- students have
to submit a text of research paper or one chapter and plan for Master’s
thesis. Colloquy on topics of the research paper and plan and colloquy
on references used, on actual topics of music, musicology and music’s
pedagogy.
Colloquy on theory of music:
Analysis of large-scale works, including knowledge of history of music,
knowledge in different disciplines of music’s theory and analytical
skills. |

CHOREOGRAPHY |
Competition in major.
Creating of choreographic composition. |

Examination in foreign language
and colloquy on topics of Master’s thesis. Plan for Master’s thesis
should be submitted together with other documents. One should be able to
